Dan Ives Says Chip Demand in Asia Is Running 13 to 14 Times Supply

Dan Ives, senior managing director at investment bank Yorkville Ives & Co, said on CNBC that his research in Asia shows current chip demand is running at 13 to 14 times available supply. He added that Nvidia is the only chip driving the AI revolution. The segment also highlighted a more cautious view from Michael Burry, the investor known as the real-life inspiration for The Big Short. Burry is holding Nvidia put options through September 2027 and has warned that the AI bubble could burst earlier than expected. At the same time, DBS Group told Bloomberg that Nvidia is trading at 17 times forward earnings, far below the 100 times level Cisco reached before the dot-com bubble burst. The report also examined the potential knock-on effects if Nvidia were to face a crisis comparable to Lehman Brothers. Nvidia has already reached preliminary agreements with six financial institutions on roughly $500 billion in customer financing, and any customer defaults could hit both Nvidia and the lenders providing the funding.

DBS CIO says Nvidia valuation remains low and AI stocks are still far from bubble territory

DBS Group Chief Investment Officer Hou Wey Fook said Nvidia’s valuation and its projected 70% earnings growth next year suggest that AI-driven technology stocks are still a long way from bubble territory. Aggregated data cited in the report showed Nvidia trading at 17 times forward earnings over the next 12 months. Hou contrasted that with Cisco Systems, which was valued at about 100 times earnings before the dot-com bubble burst. In a television interview, he argued that if Nvidia is treated as the representative company for artificial intelligence, it is hard to call the sector a bubble when the stock is trading at only the high-teens multiple. Hou also said semiconductor and AI investments still have tailwinds. For portfolio construction, he recommended a barbell strategy to manage overall volatility: hold technology stocks on the growth side, pair them with investment-grade fixed-income assets for stable returns, and use hedge funds and gold as tools for risk diversification in the middle.

DBS CIO says Nvidia valuation suggests AI-led tech stocks are still far from a bubble

DBS Group Chief Investment Officer Hou Wey Fook said Nvidia’s valuation and its projected 70% earnings growth for next year indicate that AI-driven technology stocks are still far from bubble territory. He pointed to Nvidia’s 17x price-to-earnings ratio over the next 12 months, a level he said remains well below the roughly 100x multiple seen in Cisco Systems before the dot-com bubble. Hou used that comparison to argue that current AI-related equity valuations have not yet reached the extremes associated with past market excess. He also recommended a barbell strategy as a way to manage portfolio volatility. The comments were cited by ChainCatcher in a short market update.
